Abstract

720,571. Sifting-apparatus; beater mills. MAHLKUCH, E., [trading as GREIF-WERK E. MAHLKUCH]. Aug. 21, 1952 [Nov. 26, 1951], No. 21021/52. Class 59 and 117. Apparatus for separating flour from bran comprises an upright fixed cylindrical screen 5 contained in a housing A with an inlet 1 for the supply of bran to be treated. A hollow shaft 3 is provided with perforations 4 and carries inclined beaters 6, deflectors 7, a feed worm 2, and a worm 8 which supplies the treated bran to rotary expellers 11 which force it through the outlet 12. When the shaft 3 is rotated by the motor B the material is fed by the worm 2 to the interior of the screen 5 where the beaters 6 gradually feed the material upwardly, the beaters at the same time producting suction which causes air to enter the hollow shaft through the pipe D and leave it by the bores 4. In this way bran particles in the centre of the screen cylinder are moved outwardly and the deflectors 7 are suitably shaped to assist this movement. The deflectors may be roughened or provided with brushes at their outer edges. Flour particles which pass through the screen 5 are removed via the funnel C.
