Abstract
776,292. Treating beet seeds. DEUTSCHE AKADEMIE DER LANDWIRTSHAFTSWISSENSCHAFTEN ZU BERLIN. Sept. 24,1 954, No. 27668/54. Class 58. In splitting clusters of beet seeds, particularly sugar- and fodder-beet seeds, into double seeds and cleaning the latter, the clusters are fed through a duct D into rubbing, crushing and sieving apparatus 2, comprising at least two drum-sieves of different screen size, and are rubbed, preferably in the first drumsieve, and crushed and split, preferably in the second, by brush-carrying beater arms 3 mounted on a rotating shaft S. The seeds pass along a shoot C into a cleaner 5 wherein unbroken clusters are separated by screening and waste is removed in a stream of air, e.g., from a blower F. The unbroken clusters are returned, e.g. blown, through a duct D<SP>1</SP>, and for example another drum-sieve-4, to the apparatus 2. Double seeds move over a sorting sieve and pass from the cleaner into disinfecting apparatus G.
