695,034. Treating fodder; thrashing-machines. CHRISTY & NORRIS, Ltd. Nov. 30, 1951 [Dec. 1, 1950], No. 29475/50. Classes 5(ii) and 58 [Also in Group II] In apparatus for treating grass, fodder, cereals, root-crop tops and the like, the material is fed in at 11 to a housing 1 provided with rotary beaters 25, the coarser fibre-like material being extracted from the housing by means of fan-like beaters 35 provided in a drum 4 secured to the housing, the material treated in the housing and drum being withdrawn through screens 6, 42 by means of a conduit 14 communicating with a suction fan 17 which delivers the material to a discharge outlet 18. The screen 42 may be omitted. The coarser material is extracted from the housing through openings 34 in an end wall 5 thereof and through an opening 41 in an inner wall 40 of the drum. The effective area of the openings 34 is adjustable by means of a manually-operable apertured disc 35. The extraction effort of the beaters 35<SP>1</SP> can be varied by providing in the outer wall of the drum an opening 49 the effective area bf which is adjusted by means of a shutter 50 which can be raised or lowered by rotating a nut 51 about a feed screw 52. The beaters 25 are pivoted to rods 26 passing through spacing discs 27 located by spacing collars 28. The beaters 35<SP>1</SP> are carried on pins 34<SP>1</SP> passing through discs 33 located by means of spacing members 32.
