Abstract

1,105,002. Valves. M. C. E. HENRION. 12 Aug., 1966 [22 Feb., 1966], No. 36182/66. Heading F2V. A butterfly valve 1 has a peripheral groove 3 whose cross - section is substantially in the form of a trapezium a, b, c, d, the shorter side a, b being the inlet of the groove. A ring 9 is located in the groove and preferably has a crosssectional diameter 1¢ times the opening a, b. Holes 5, 6 lead from the opposite sides of the valve to the base of the groove so that in the closed position upstream pressure acts to deform the ring 9. The holes 5, 6 are equally spaced around the valve. The sides a, d; b, c of the groove may be curved and these sides are preferably at an angle of 60 degrees with the side c, d.
