Abstract

826,873. Valves. AEROTAPS Ltd. Nov. 4, 1957 [April 30, 1957; July 3, 1957], Nos. 13660/57 and 21023/57. Class 135. A valve body 10 comprises a main section 101 and a flanged inlet section 104, the section 101 having a frusto-conical seat 103, a lateral outlet port 107 downstream thereof, and an external thread 105. Within the section 101 is an axially-movable piston valve closure of moulded nylon that consists of a sleeve portion 111 with a packing ring 12 and a stem 112, the outer end of which is provided with two opposite flat surfaces that engage in an operating head 14; the closure is bolted to the head, which latter screws on to threads 105 whereby rotation and hence axial movement of the head is transmitted to the closure, the outward travel of which is limited by a stop 15. Pressure liquid is always present in the closure sleeve and forces the latter into sealing contact with the section 101; additional sealing is effected when the closure member engages the seat 103. In various modifications the closure member stem is made of metal and the sleeve of nylon. the inlet and main sections are in alignment and the closure member is disposed normal to the aligned inlet and outlet. According to the first Provisional Specification the sleeve portion may be replaced by a solid block of natural or synthetic rubber.
