Abstract

719,634. Clamps. SPEED TOOLS, Ltd. Nov. 7, 1952, [Nov. 7, 1951.] No. 26099/51. Class 61. A toggle operated clamp comprises a support 11 carrying a fixed jaw 15, an adjustable jaw 19 carried by a lever 20 which is pivoted at 21 to the support and an operating lever 26 pivoted to the support at 28 and connected with the pivoted jaw lever by a link 30. The support comprises a pair of vertical plates 12 flanged at 13 to form a base and having fixed therebetween a hardened steel jaw 16. The lever 20 comprises a pair of plates welded together at 23 and carrying a tubular member 24 internally threaded to receive an adjustable screw jaw 25. The operating lever comprises a pair of levers 26 which straddle the plates 12 and are jointed at one end to a handle 27. The link 30 is mounted between the levers 26 on a pivot pin 31 and is held centrally on the pin by two distance pieces which in the clamped position engage the front edge of the plates 20. The other end of the link 30 is mounted between the plates 20 on a pivot 34. In a modification the jaw lever comprises a single plate connected to the operating lever by a pair of links located one on each side of the single plate of the second jaw members. In another modification the handle is substantially horizontal in its operative position and engages-lugs on the upper edge of the plates of the support.
