Abstract

575,458. Clamps. WELLS, T. R. Feb. 29,1944, No. 3707. [Class 61 (ii)] A clamp having two similar jaws pivotally mounted midway of their length on a clamping screw is provided with a curved link of variable effective length connecting one end of the jaws for adjustment purposes. As is shown, the jaw members A, B each consist of two similar parallel metal strips connected by pivot pins C and F respectively. The pin C passes through the end D of the clamping screw E which passes through the pivot pin F, and a nut E<1> on the screw enables the members A and B to be drawn together. A curved link G is attached to the member A by a pin H and has holes G<2> for engagement by a removable pin J the end of the link extending in line with the member B when the jaws are adjusted for small objects. Gripping plates K and L, between which an object M' is held, are pivotally mounted in the jaws and may be either flat or grooved. In a modification, the holes in the link G may be replaced by transverse slots.
