Abstract
718,730. Cranes; preventing load from swinging. BUTTERLEY CO., Ltd., and WESTMORELAND, A. G. Feb. 10, 1953, [Feb. 22, 1952.] No. 4699/52. Class 78 (4). Three or more ropes pass from the load of an overhead crane to a single hoist drum and are spaced so that they restrain movement of the load. As shown in plan in Fig. 3 four ropes b, c, d and e secured to a magnet g by which the load is supported pass over corresponding pulleys i, j, k, m to the hoist drum a as shown in Fig. 1. An electric cable f supplying current to the magnet is wound on the drum a and passes over a pulley n to the magnet g. Where three ropes are employed they are preferably spaced at angles of 120 degrees to one another. The surface of the drum is grooved to cause the ropes and cable to track correctly and the drum is driven through a gear h.
