Abstract
713,836. Sorting by weighing. OTTLEY. G. F. F., and SPERRY GYROSCOPE CO., Ltd. Nov. 30, 1951 [Dec. 1, 1950], No. 29458/50. Class 143 Packages stacked in a vertical feed 3 are pushed on to a pair of pivoted support arms 8 by a feeder 4 controlled by a motor driven cam lever 5. As the feeder moves forward a pin 10 in the cam lever 5 allows the support arms 8 to rotate about pivot 9 and lower the package on to the weighing platform 2. Packages above a certain weight cause a discriminating switch 11 (contact and mercury pool) to close, energizing solenoid 15 to tip the weighing platform 2 and discharge the package down a shoot 18. Packages below the minimum weight (which do not operate the switch) are raised on the arms 8 as the feeder 4 moves back and pushed down a shoot 14 by the following package as it is fed on to the support arms. Two machines may be used in series to select packages within predetermined weight limits. In an alternative arrangement, Fig, 2, (not shown) packages are fed on a conveyer to the reciprocating feeder and heavy packages are ejected from the weighing platform by a solenoid actuated pusher. The weighing element may be as described in Specification 633,075.
