Abstract

701,381. Coin freed machines vending articles from piles. GRIMMETT, V. A. Oct. 26, 1951 [Sept. 26, 1950], No. 23618/50. Class 27 Delivering articles from columns: motor driven pushers. The top newspaper (or similar flat article) of a pile 6 is delivered througii a slot 9 by repeated small reciprocatory movements of a crossbar 12 carrying pins 13 for engaging the newspaper and pivoted on a plate 11 secured to a pusher rod 10. The rod 10 is driven through a U-shaped yoke 24 from a pair of eccentric stub shafts 23-mounted in crank discs 22 fast on a shaft 20 driven through a worm wheel 19 and worm 18 from an electric motor 17. The plate 11 is guided by a rod 16 secured to the casing and passing through a slot 15 in the plate. The newspapers rest on a shelf 5 which is secured to posts 7 guided vertically by means not shown and is biased upwardly by springs. Coin action: thrust. As coin 26, Fig. 1, is pushed into a slot 4 it pushes a member 25. connected' by an arm 27, Fig. 3, to an arm 28 which closes a toggle switch 29 controlling the motor 17. The switch is opened at the end of the delivery action when a pin 32, Figs. 1 and 2, on a worm wheel 30 driven by the worm 17 engages a quadrantshaped member 33 on a shaft 34 to turn the shaft and an arm 35 fast with it and with the switch-operating arm 28. Casings. The mechanism for feeding the newspapers and the coin operated mechanism are mounted in a cover 2 hinged at 3 to the casing. The slot 9 through which the newspapers are delivered is flared at 8.
