684,534. Two-stroke engines. LIST, H. Feb. 14, 1951 [Feb. 14, 1950], No. 3603/51. Class 7(ii).. In V-type engines having piston-controlled inlet and exhaust ports and particularly those in which scavenging air supplied through inlet ports r on each side of an exhaust port c is directed towards the cylinder wall opposite the exhaust port, the space h between the cylinders and above the exhaust ports is employed as a storage space for the scavenging air, and the exhaust passages d pass upwardly through the space to exhaust pipes f, there being pocket-like parts i of the cylinder cooling-water jackets surrounding the passages d and within the space. The water may pass from the front of the crankcase at k, around the cylinders and exhaust passages, through holes l and into the cylinder heads m, and then to a cooler. An injection pump n may be mounted on a cover g over the space h, and other accessories-o, p, e.g. an electric starter, dynamo or air compressor, may be attached to the sides of the engine.
