Abstract

707,768. Watches. HANHART, W. J., and HANHART, M., [trading as HANHART UHRENFABRIKEN, A.]. Sept. 20, 1951 [Sept. 20. 1950], No. 22041/51. Class 139 A watch for use also as a stop-watch has an auxiliary gear train to drive an auxiliary stop hand, a control hammer pivoted within the watch and operable by two members actuated from outside the watch case, one member operating said control hammer to disengage the auxiliary stop hand from the watch movement and the other member operating the same control hammer first to re-set the auxiliary stop hand at zero and then to re-engage the auxiliary stop hand with the watch movement. The normal seconds hand wheel, Fig. 3, meshes with a gear 3 carried by a resilient lever 4 pivoted by a screw 5 to the frame 6. The gear 3 may drive a gear 7 to which the centre seconds hand is fixed. The lever 4 has a projection 17 which co-operates with a cam surface 16 of a control hammer 10 pivoted by a screw 9 to the frame 6 and urged counter-clockwise by a spring 11. The member 10 has an extension 14 which co-operates, as described later, with a lever 20 pivoted by a screw 21 to the frame 6 and urged clockwise by a spring 22. In operation the gear 1 is driving the gear 7 and its centre seconds hand, Fig. 3. Depression of the button 27 rocks the lever 20 counter-clockwise. The member 10 is thereby rocked clockwise until the lever 20 engages a recess 19 in the extension 14, Fig. 2, At the same time the surface 16 engages the projection 17 of the lever 4 which is thereby moved to discharge the gear 3 from the gear 7 and so stop the centre seconds hand. Depression of the button 28 now rocks the member 10 further clockwise and an angled part 13, 14 thereof meets pin 15 on the gear 7 to zeroize the centre seconds hand. If now the button 27 is again depressed and the button 28 released the member 10 will be returned and arrested in the position shown in Fig. 2. A further momentary depression of the button 28 will release the lever 20 to return to its initial position by the action of its spring 22. The spring 11 will return the member 10 and the lever 4 will assume its initial position in which the gear 3 meshes with gears 1 and 7.
