Abstract
704,430. Emptying containers; venting. VAN LEER'S VATENFABRICKEN N.V. Feb. 21, 1952, No. 4621/52. Class 21 A pouring spout for a container having a venting orifice near the pouring orifice comprises two concentric tubes 11, 12, Fig 1, the inner being adapted to be attached to the pouring orifice, and the outer. being adapted to connect to the venting orifice, A flexible concentric pair of tubes 22, 23 may be fitted on to the tubes 11, 12; preferably the inner flexible tube 22 is longitudinally ribbed to prevent the closure of the venting space when the tubes are bent at an acute angle. The inner tube 12 has a rubber ring 15 to engage the pouring orifice, and the outer tube 12 has a rubber ring 19 to engage the venting orifice, this ring 19 being axially compressible by a cam and lever mechanism (not shown) pivoted at 21. In a modification, Fig. 5, the two tubes 31, 32, are seamed together at 33 and the outer tube 32 has apertures 37 which are normally covered by the rubber ring 35, but which are exposed when the tubes 31, 32, are pushed into the container outlet, so that the venting orifice is put into communication with the space between the tubes. The spout is particularly adapted for the containers described in Specification 704,429. Specification 659,524 also is referred to.
