701,595. Stuffing-box packing. SOMMER, H. March 20, 1951 [March 23, 1950], No. 6651/51. Class 122 (5) Stuffing-box packing for a sliding rod 12 comprises a metallic sleeve 2 formed with internal V-shaped grooves 3 opening towards the rods and external V-shaped grooves 4 opening toward the stuffing-box wall, the grooves being separated by walls 5 which are oblique relative to the axis of the sleeve. The sleeve, which is preferably made of non-ferrous metal, is axially split to facilitate assembly on, or removal from, the rod 2. The stuffing-box may be mounted in its bearing 6 in cantilever fashion by forming it of two concentrically spaced annular parts 13a and 13b joined at their inner ends at 14, the outer end of the outer part 13b being secured to the bearing by a flange 15.
