Abstract

700,935. Sound reproducing circuits. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES. June 12, 1951 [June 12,1950], No. 13939/51. Class 40 (4) A directional microphone system comprises at least three microphones arranged in a straight line and connected to a single output circuit, the length of the line being not greater than half the wavelength of a medium frequency of the audio-frequency band, that is a frequency of the order of 800-1,000 cycles per second. Such a system exhibits a directional characteristic for the higher frequencies. The microphones are preferably screened by a hood of sound-permeable wire-netting. In a modification, two such lines are mounted parallel to one another and their outputs are connected in opposition so that the whole system acts as a pressure gradient transducer. Fig. 3 in which each line is represented by a condenser microphone 12, 13 illustrates the circuitry, elements 14, 17 and 19 being resistors. A low-pass filter 20 renders the line 13 ineffective at the frequencies at which the line 12 is directional.
