[Class 13] In an instrument such as a loud-speaker or directional microphone comprising a vibrating diaphragm, annular reflectors are distributed over the surface of the diaphragm. The purpose is to reduce inefficiency due to whirling motion set up in the air by the diaphragm. For example, a loud-speaker with a cone 6 operated by a moving coil 7 has annular reflectors 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15 disposed around the cone. The mounting means for the moving coil is perforated to avoid compression of the air under the apex of the cone. In a modification, further reflectors may be used on the other surface of the cone to direct the sound waves from this side into an acoustic labyrinth.
