Abstract

700,649. Conveyers. FISHER & LUDLOW, Ltd. Oct. 31, 1952 [Nov. 1, 1951], No. 35603/51. Class 78 (1). In a conveyer system of the kind comprising an endless chain or rope on which are spaced longitudinally, for advancement by the conveyer, a plurality of article-supporting members mounted for rotational movement relatively thereto, the means for imparting rotation to the article supporting members comprises rollers 31 of tapered configuration, whose peripheries are adapted for simple rolling frictional engagement with a stationary rail 40 of untoothed configuration, the position of the rail 40 being adjustable in a direction substantially parallel to the direction of taper of the adjacent surface of the roller 31 whereby variation in rotational velocity of the article-supporting members 22 may be effected. The roller may form part of the article-supporting member or, as shown, may be mounted for rotation about a separate axis and a step-up frictional drive between co-operating surfaces 20, 32 of the articlesupporting member and the roller is then provided. Spring means 41, 33 respectively maintain the roller in engagement with the rail, and the surfaces of the roller and articlesupporting member in frictional contact. The rail 40 is mounted by brackets 38 for rectilinear sliding movement on rods 37 attached to the framework 36. The roller assembly may be balanced by a counterweight 43.
