Abstract

698,048. Ironing apparatus. FREEMAN (ENGINEERS), Ltd., A., and FREEMAN, A. March 18, 1952. [Dec. 27, 1950] No. 31402/50. Class 138 (ii). Apparatus for use in the pressing or ironing of textile articles or piece goods comprises a steam producer chamber 13 located beneath a support 3 for the work, the chamber 13 having at least one nozzle 16 for directing water onto one or more heated surfaces in the chamber. The support 3 may be the lower member of a press having an upper member (not shown) mounted for movement towards the lower member, or it may form a heated support for work to be operated on by a movable ironing mechanism. As shown, it includes a perforated plate 5 of aluminium or copper, covered by an ironing blanket 9 secured to pegs 7 by a draw string 8. An intermediate chamber 12 contains superheating elements 20 controlled by a thermostat 21. The chamber 13 has a corrugated bottom 14 heated by electric elements 15 controlled by a thermostat (not shown). Each nozzle 16 has an upwardly inclined outlet and is supplied with water through a pipe 17 from a pump which may be operable by a treadle to deliver a given quantity of liquid for each stroke, as described in Specification 698,042, [Group XXVIII].
