[Class 138 (ii).] An ironing press comprises a head 1 having steam-heating pipes 2a and perforated steampipes 20 from which steam may be passed through apertures 21 in the press surface, and work tables 7 carried bv a rotatable hollow pillar 3 and also provided with steam-heating pipes 6 and perforated steam-pipes 24. A recessed portion 37 of each table, covered by a perforated plate 36, communicates with a casing 46 containing an ejector controlled by a valve 49 fed from a pipe 50 and discharging into a pipe 47 whereby suction may be applied to the goods on the tables. The connections between the recesses 37 and the casing 46 include pipes 38, telescopic pipes 43, 44, and a cylindrical box 19 which rotates on a stationary cylindrical box 19a, fluidtight joints being provided. The steam-supply pipe 4 for the tables discharges into the hollow pillar and the supplies for the pipes 24 in the tables are selectively controlled by valves 32 operated by handles 33 and located between the supply ports in the hollow pillar and pipes 28a communicating with the steaming pipes through swivel joints 28, 29, 30 and T-conduits 31. The supplies to the heating pipes 6 pass from the pillar to the tables through the circularly bent pipes 9 as in Specification 331,582, [Class 138 (ii), Washing, mangling, &c.], and the work table beneath the head is raised into pressing engagement therewith by the ram 14a as described in that Specification. A cloth may be drawn across the pressing face of the head one end of the cloth being secured to a rod 60, Fig. 2, extending between brackets 59 at the corners of the head and the other end is wrapped upon sleeves 62 which are mounted on a rod 61 at the other side of the head. The cloth is maintained at the desired tension by pawl and ratchet devices 63 which are released by fingers 64.
