Abstract

933,554. Ironing presses. BROWN & GREEN Ltd. July 27, 1961 [July 27, 1960], No. 26118/60. Class 138 (2). In an ironing press, a press head or buck is provided with means for supplying steam to a selected area of its working surface. As shown, a buck has a major steam chest 2 and a separate minor steam chest 3, both of which communicate with a padded working surface 1 through a plurality of holes 4. Steam is supplied to either or both of the steam chests through a pipe 10 and/or a pipe 21 accordingly. A suction pipe 16 is connected with the major steam chest only, to provide means for removing spent steam from the working surface at the end of a pressing operation. The periphery of the buck is provided with a duct 7 through which dry saturated steam at a pressure in excess of that of the ambient atmosphere, is circulated continuously by way of pipes 8, 9, to maintain the temperature of the buck above 100‹ C. A spreader unit 14, connected to the pipe 10, and a web 15 are provided to assist the dispersal of steam in the major steam chest. Pedal operated valves (not shown) are used to control the supply of steam to the two chests and the suction applied to the pipe 16. The steam chests may be more than two in number.
