Abstract

696,914. Lamp caps and holders. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Dec. 31, 1951 [Feb. 12, 1951], No. 3369/51. Class 38 (i). A holder for a lamp 1 of the type having an evacuated envelope surrounding the discharge tube, which is sealed at the neck into a porcelain shell 2, comprising a bayonet socket 4 having a flange 6 which engages an annular groove 7 in an acid, sunlight, and ozone-resisting plastic (e.g. p.v.c.) or rubber sleeve, projections 11 on the flange 6 engaging cavities in the sleeve 5 to prevent rotation. The sleeve has a corrugated extension 8 of which the end portion 9 is stepped at 10, 12 for locating different.sizes of shell 2,2<SP>1</SP>, so that when the lamp is inserted, the shell compresses the extension 8 to form a gas and moisture-tight joint.
