Abstract
695,607. Cathode-ray tubes. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. (Lorenz Akt.- Ges., C.) Aug. 24. 1951, No. 19993/51. Class 39(i) Electromagnetic deflecting means for a cathode ray receiving tube for deflecting the beam parallel to a given co-ordinate axis comprises a cylindrical yoke of ferromagnetic material about which is wound four coils 10, 11, 12, 13, Fig. 5, formed as toroidal sections and arranged in pairs at opposite ends of two diameters making equal angles of between 22¢ degrees and 45 degrees preferably 30 degrees, with the co-ordinate axis. As shown, coils 10, 11, 12, 13 give horizontal or line deflection, coils 11, 12; 10, 13 being connected in series in aiding relation and the two pairs of series connected coils being connected in parallel in opposing relation. The vertical or frame deflecting coils 15, 16, 17, 18 are similarly arranged and connected with respect to their axis of deflection, and are preferably wound on the same yoke as the other set of coils. The arrangement is stated to give a more homogeneous field than prior art devices in which horizontal and vertical deflecting coils are arranged alternately around a cylindrical ferromagnetic yoke and in which the flux produced by the windings of one side of the yoke is in opposition to that on the opposite side, Figs. 1-3 (not shown), especially if as is preferred the diameters characteristic of the line and frame coils make equal angles with the horizontal and vertical axes respectively.
