Abstract
627,482. Cathode-ray tubes. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., JESTY, L. C., and HENDERSON, J. R. Aug. 13, 1945, No. 20756. [Class 39 (i)] A deflecting electromagnet has one or more pairs of opposite inwardly projecting polepieces, the inner surfaces of which are close to, and have a shape which substantially follows that of, the envelope zone which flares outwardly towards the screen. The surfaces may be smooth or stepped, and the envelope may be such that the ray, when fully deflected, follows a path which conforms to, and grazes, the inner surface thereof, or is such that the ratio of the distance of the ray from the tube axis to the tube radius is constant throughout the zone. In one form, the magnetic yoke 14, Fig. 2, consists of stampings, which surround the flared zone of the tube; two pairs of polepieces 15, 16 are formed by the slots 17 within which are placed the four windings. The yoke may be shaped so that the thickness between its outer surface and the inner surfaces of the poles is the same throughout its length.
