Abstract

832,158. Electron beam deflecting apparatus. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Sept. 5, 1958 [Sept. 10, 1957], No. 28589/58. Class 39(1). A magnetic deflection system for a cathode ray tube comprises toroidal coils 1, saddle coils 3 and a ferromagnetic yoke member 2 which is shaped in a quadratic curve to correspond to and surround the conical part of the tube envelope and the tube neck. Both types of coil may have a variable cross-section, for example they may be wound as cosine coils, and the toroidal coils may comprise a number of individual coils whose diameters may be varied to conform to the available winding space and to provide optimum field distribution.
