Abstract

695,554. Crankshafts. EXCELSIOR MOTOR CO., Ltd. Feb. 9, 1951 [Feb. 9, 1950], No. 3323/50. Class 80 (ii). [Also in Group XXVII] A crankshaft comprises detachably secured portions 28, 29 one or both of which passes endwise through a one-piece partition 13 provided with a housing 21 accommodating sealing means 40 and one or more ball or roller bearings 36. As applied to a twocylinder engine the portions 28, 29 are slidingly keyed together and secured by a nut 34 accessible by virtue of a sliding fit connection between a solid or tubular crankpin 45 and crank-web 22, the remaining crankpin to crank-web connections being force fits. The sealing means 40 are of flexible material and have internal annular coil springs pressing them against the crankshaft. Ball or roller big-end bearings are provided. The crankpins may each be interfitting pin and tubular elements each fast in a respective crank web. The outer crankshaft portions pass through housings 16, 17 containing ball bearings 46, 52 and sealing means 53', 54.
