Abstract

694,662. Valves. PLESSEY, CO., Ltd. Dec. 14, 1951 [Dec. 14, 1950], No. 30520/50. Class 135 A hydraulic relief valve comprises a casing 1, Fig. 1, having an inlet 2 and an outlet 3 and a spring-loaded valve member 7 slidable in a tubular valve guide 4 which is removable and replaceable by a tubular valve guide 17, Fig. 2. The valve guide 4 is formed with discharge ports 6 which, when the guide is assembled, are disposed adjacent the removable valve seat 15 so that on the valve being unseated the liquid pressure is relieved immediately to the outlet 3. The valve guide 17 is formed with discharge ports 18 which, when the guide is assembled, are remotely disposed with respect to the seat 15 so that on the valve being unseated the pressure liquid acts on the shoulder 7a of the valve to move it further from its seat before it is fully open to relieve excess pressure to the outlet 3. The valve member is provided with an axial bore 8 open to inlet pressure and is mounted on a spindle 9 having grooves 10 for rubber rings 11 to prevent valve chatter.
