520,153. Reducing valves. VICKERS, Inc. Oct. 13, 1938, No. 29637. Convention date, Nov. 16, 1937. [Class 135] A reducing valve with an adjustable fluid pressure load comprises an inlet chamber 8 located between an outlet chamber 9 and a pressure regulating chamber 13 connected with the outlet by a restricted passage 14, an adjustable relief valve 20 connected to the pressure regulating chamber 13 a main valve 17 in the outlet chamber 9 connected by a stem 16 to a piston 4 slidable in a bore between the inlet and the pressure regulating chambers, and a light spring 5 arranged in the pressure regulating chamber and tending to move the main valve in the opening direction. The relief valve 20 is of the spring - loaded ball valve type and is connected with the pressure regulating chamber 13 by a passage 19 and with a tank by an outlet 21. The relief valve 20 is provided in a casing 3 separate from the main housing 1. The passage 14 is restricted by a pin 15 of a diameter almost equal to the bore of the said passage. The valve 17 when fully open rests upon an abutment 6 provided on a cap member 2. When the pressure in the outlet chamber 9 and in the pressure regulating chamber 13 rises above that for which the valve 20 is set, the latter opens so as to reduce the pressure in the chamber 13..Outlet pressure then closes the valve 17 on its seat 12, the valve being then balanced as regards inlet pressure.
