Abstract
694,349. Vices. KRCHNYAK, E. Oct. 2, 1951 [Oct. 3, 1950], No. 22905/51. Class 61 (ii). In a vice at least one of the jaws comprises a rotatably mounted polygonal turret head which is locked upon its carriage by a nut screwing upon the lower part of a non - rotatable spindle extending through the carriage and terminating in a head engaged in a concentric recess in the outer face of the turret. As shown the square turret head 5 is pivoted on the slidable jaw carriage 3 by means of a headed spindle 17 carrying a key 19 which engages in a groove 20 provided in the bore of the carriage. The locking nut 16 which screws on the end of the spindle is operated by a bar 18 which can be selectively fixed in any one of a series of screw threaded holes on the periphery of the nut. Prior to being locked, the turret head is held in required position by a spring controlled latch which is urged upwardly into engagement with one of four bores provided in the head. The latch may be held in lowered position by means of a laterally projecting peg 14 movable in a slot 15 having a lateral notch. The faces of the square turret are formed for gripping various shapes of work piece, one face being left smooth in order that it may be shaped to meet any special requirement.
