Abstract
688,425. Double-door fastenings. LOVELL, J. J. April 24, 1951 [Nov. 15, 1950Class44 A fastening for securing the first closed door A of double doors when the second closed door B is shut comprises, in the form of Figs. 1 and 2 a U-shaped bracket 1 providing mounting on the inside face of the first closed door for a rotatable spindle 3 bent at its free end to form an operating arm 4 and carrying a locking arm 10 normally retained in an inoperative horizontal position by a spring 6. A projection 7 on the second closed door engages the arm 4 in closing and rotates the arm 10 into locking position behind a fixed abutment 8. Engagement between the projection 7 and the arm 4 as the second door closes ensures that the first door is moved to its fully closed position before rotation of the locking arm. In a modification, Fig. 4, the spindle B is mounted in a sleeve 12 formed by a doubled over metal plate 11, the locking arm 15 projecting through a slot 16. A torsion spring 17 is mounted on the spindle to urge the locking arm to the inoperative position.
