Class 44 A lock for furniture has a liner plate or false bottom 3, the bolt has a stump or projection 13 slidably guided by engagement with the liner plate, and a locking lever or tumbler 1 is located between the liner plate and the bolt. The liner plate 3 is mounted in a recess in the case 4, and the lever 1, comprising a rectangular plate having a leg 5 normally pressed against the side of the case by a spring 8 is pivoted on a pin 2. The bolt 11 is mounted above the lever, and the inner face thereof carries a stump 13 which engages in a slot 14 in the plate 3. The bolt is shaped at its lower edge for engagement by a key in known manner to enable it to act as a latch or as a locking bolt according to the position of the stump 13 with relation to the projection 10 on the lever 1.
