687,269. Magnetic clutches. WAREHAM, W. G. Jan. 26, 1950 [Jan. 26, 1949], No. 2125/49. Class 35. A magnetic coupling comprises alternately spaced permanently magnetic discs 5, 7, slidably splined to an outer driving casing 1 and an inner driven shaft 6 respectively, the driving force being varied by altering the axial spacing of the discs. Spring members 8 which serve to space the discs are compressed to increase the driving force by means of a sleeve member 9 which is moved axially against a returning spring 14 by means of a shoe 13.
