Abstract

689,432. Friction clutches. RINGSPANN GES. April 27, 1951 [May 16, 1950], No. 9882/51. Class 80 (ii). In a friction clutch comprising a driven disc 6 dispersed between a member 2 rigid with the driving member 1 and a presser plate 4, engagement is effected by pressure applied by a slidable sleeve 17 to the inner edge of a conical resilient disc 12 which engages with its outer edge in a recess 14 in a part 23 adjustably secured to plate 4 and which fulcrums near its outer edge on an annular rib 11 of the member 2, the disc 12 having radial slots 15, Fig 2, extending alternately from its inner and outer peripheries. On release of the engaging pressure, the clutch disengages due to the resilience of the disc 12. The sleeve 17 is moved, through balls 19, by an operating collar 18. In the engaged position, shown in the lower half of Fig. 1, the balls 19 enter an annular recess 20 in the member 1 and are held therein by the collar 18, which slides over them. The part 23 is secured to the plate 4 by adjustable bolts 21 passing through holes in member 2. Alternatively, member 23 may be adjustably threaded in a longitudinal extension of plate 4, which latter is caused to rotate with member 2 by balls engaging longitudinal recesses in the two members.
