Abstract
685,847. Closing bags. BOEHLEN FRERES, S.P.R.L. Jan 24, 1950 [Feb. 1, 1949], No. 1809/50. Drawings to Specification. Classes 94(i) and 94(ii) A bag of thermoplastic material is closed by bringing together the edges to be united, applying to said edges a strip of non-thermoplastic material, e.g. paper, cardboard or fabric, which is folded so as to embrace them, and applying heat and pressure to unite the edges to each other and to the strip. A thermoplastic adhesive may be interposed between the edges and strip or a strip coated on its inner surface with adhesive may be used. The strip may be formed with scalloped or serrated edges or printed with advertising matter to enhance the appearance of the closed bag, and formed or provided with a tearing string, tab or lines of weakness to facilitate the opening of the bag. The strip may be prefolded to V or U cross-section and supplied in cut lengths or in roll form. Strips with two longitudinal folds may be used for bags of substantial thickness. The strips may be united along one face to the bags during the manufacture of the latter.
