Abstract
685,647. Reciprocating pumps. C.A.V., Ltd. April 5, 1951 [April 17, 1950], No. 9328/50. Class 102 (i). A reciprocating pump comprises a spring- loaded plunger d which is reciprocated in a bore b by an inclined surface i of a rotary member g which also acts as a rotary valve controlling the inlet and deliver ports j, k. Transfer passages m lead from both the inlet and outlet ports and either of them may communicate with the outer end of bore b through a groove n in a movable cover f. When the upper passage m is used the liquid entering the left hand side of the piston d is first transferred through upper passage m to the right hand side thereof and is finally delivered by the positive movement to the right of the piston. When the lower passage m is used the liquid is delivered under the pressure of the spring e. The inclined surface acts on the plunger through a ball o or through a slipper, or, as shown in Fig. 5, through a tappet s carried by a partition t which is slidable for varying the stroke of the plunger. Alternately the pump casing may be in two parts which may be moved laterally with respect to each other for varying the stroke.
