Abstract

595,223. Deep well pumps. ALCO VALVE CO. June 14, 1945, No. 15156. Convention date, July 22, 1944. [Class 102 (i)] [Also in Group XXIX] A deep well pump comprises a plunger 27 fitted with a valve 33 and when reciprocated by liquid pressure applied to the piston 28, draws oil through the bore 32 and discharges it through a valve 35 and port 36 to the rising tube 13. A pipe 37 connects the pump casing to a piston cylinder device 51 actuated by a reciprocating piston motor 55 controlled by a valve 62 and supplied with fluid under pressure by a pump or compressor 61. When the piston in cylinder 51 is moved to the right, a high pressure is transmitted to pipe 37 and depresses the valve 41 against a spring 50 so that liquid may pass through ports 38, 47 and 46 to the underside of the piston 28 to move the pump plunger 27 on its delivery stroke ; at the same time liquid above the piston 28 is discharged and joins the liquid pumped by the plunger 27 in the port 38 and passes to the underside of the piston 28. When the piston in cylinder 51 moves to the left, liquid is discharged through valve 56 and some passes to the other side of the piston and a lower pressure is transmitted to pipe 37 that is insuflicient to overcome the spring 50 so that the valve 41 is raised to the position shown in Fig. 2 and the lower side of the piston 28 is connected by the ports 46 and 48 with the rising tube 13 and the liquid under pressure passes through the port 38 to act on the upper side of the piston 28 and move it on its suction stroke.
