Abstract
685,443. Pinking scissors. UNITED TOOL & DIE CO. Sept. 22, 1947 [Sept. 27, 1946], No. 25733/47. Class 30 Pinking scissors comprise a pair of pivoted blades 5, each blade having a transverse edge formed with a series of teeth 12 so disposed that for each high point of the teeth on either blade there is a corresponding low point on the other blade, both points lying on an arc having its centre in the pivotal axis; a surface 14 supporting the material M to be cut extends above the teeth of each blade. All the teeth on one blade are of the same size while the dimensions of those on the other blade vary continuously with their distance from the pivotal point so that their high and low points lie on the arcs corresponding to the low and high points of the teeth on the first blade. The arrangement is such that during a cutting movement of the scissors, co-operating cutting-edge portions of the two blades are at an angle to one another which is divergent in a direction away from the pivot. Each surface 14 extends over part of the width of the teeth 12 and is serrated in register with the teeth. It is preferably formed as a flange on a cover plate 15 secured by means of the bolt 8 holding the blades together.
