Abstract

679,413. Switch contacts. METROCUTANIT, Ltd. July 5, 1950. [March 4, 1950] No. 16834/50. Class 38 (v). [Also in Group XXXV] A magnetic contact is made of a homogeneous composite material in which ferromagnetic material having a magnetic saturation of at least 4,000 Gauss is mixed with but not alloyed to electrically conducting material, e.g. silver or copper, having a conductivity of at least 30 per cent of that of standard annealed copper. The ferromagnetic material may exhibit permanent magnetism, e.g. alloys of Fe, A1 and Ni, or Fe, A1, Ni and Co, or have low retentivity, e.g. Fe Ni and Fe Co alloys. It may be a magnetic oxide. The materials may be mixed in powdered form and sintered before and during compression at a temperature which should be sufficiently low to prevent alloying. Alternatively, a porous magnetic material may be impregnated with molten conducting material. The silver may be replaced by its oxide.
