Abstract

676,536. Injection - moulding machines. BRITISH MOULDED PLASTICS, Ltd., and PARNELL, G. W. E. Aug. 16, 1950 [Aug. 24, 1949], No. 22062/49. Class 87(ii) The mould consists of two parts 16 17 the part 16 being fixed and the part 17 being carried by a hydraulically-movable platen 20. The sprue passage is formed by co-operating tapered grooves 21 in the mould parts. The injection nozzle 10 has an enlarged head 13 which is clamped in operative position by means of two blocks 14, 15 bolted to the mould parts. The head 13 is formed with a tapered portion 13a converging rearwardly from the head towards a non-tapering portion 12. When the mould has been filled the platen 20 is raised carrying with it the mould part 17 and clamping block 15, and the moulded article is removed; the waste material in the sprue passage breaks off at the nozzle head 13. The injection apparatus comprises a cylinder formed in two parts 3a, 3 b, this cylinder being carried by a wheeled frame 5 having hydraulic or mechanical jacks 6 by means of which the height of nozzle 10 is adjusted. With the cylinder are a torpedo 8 and a hydraulic injection ram 1. A lateral passage 9 leads from the cylinder to the nozzle. Electrical heating elements 7, 11 are provided for the cylinder and nozzle.
