Abstract

1,166,083. Injection moulding. A. FISCHBACH. 24 Jan., 1968 [22 Feb., 1967], No. 3821/68. Heading B5A. An injection moulding machine has fixed and movable mould platens 4 and 6 respectively, urged together by hydraulic drive units 7a, 7b symmetrically positioned about the central longitudinal axis of the machine and located between the platen 6 and a fixed plate 2; a rod 11 extending rearwardly and centrally from the platen 6 is clamped by a clamping and locking device 10, coaxial with the said axis, when the platens have been brought to mould closing position, at which the device 10 applies hydraulic pressure to the rod to urge the mould parts together. Following the injection moulding process the hydraulic action of the device 10 is terminated and the rod clamping action released and an opening device 10a is hydraulically energized to separate the platens by acting on the rod 11. The drive units are diagonally positioned on the platen 6 and include pistons 8a, 8b secured to tie rods 3a, 3d. In a modification the hydraulic drive units for closing the platens are mounted on the plate 2, and their piston-rods are connected to the platen 6; two hydraulic mould opening units are attached to the platen 4 and their piston-rods extend to the platen 6.
