Abstract
674,175. Motor vehicle frames. HUDSON MOTOR CAR CO. April 6, 1949 [April 7, 1948], No. 9414/49. Classes 79(iii) and 79(iv) A motor vehicle frame comprising front and rear sections, each section comprising longitudinal members provided with transverse portions, and the portions on one section abutting and being rigidly secured to the portions on the other section. The rear section B, as shown, carries the body and is formed by longitudinal members 20 of box section members 23, a U-shaped rear member 24, a cross member 35 of U- section, a cross member 25, and members 27 interconnected by members 30. Secured to the front ends of the members 20 are the transverse portions 37 having formed at their ends forwardly opening channels. The front section A carries' the power unit for driving the rear wheels, the front wheels and steering mechanism therefore and is formed of the longitudinal members 40 interconnected by cross members 41, 44. The member 44 extends laterally of the members 40 to form the transverse portions 45. To secure the front ends of the rear section B to the section A the portions 45 fit within the portions 37 and are riveted and welded thereto. To secure the rear ends of the front section A to the section B the ends 43 of the members 40 are placed under the cross frame member 35 and are secured thereto by plates 39, 49 and bolts 50, the bolts 50 engaging recesses 51 on the sides of the members 40, and the bolts 50, plates 39, 49 and members 40 and 35 being welded together.
