Abstract

726,448. Change-speed gearing. DAIMLERBENZ AKT.-GES. March 19, 1953 [March 19, 1952], No. 7689/53. Class 80 (2). In change-speed gearing with two three-element epicycle trains in series, the carrier t<SP>1</SP> of the first train may be coupled to the driving shaft a by a friction clutch K<SP>1</SP>, and is connected to the annulus r<SP>2</SP> of the second train through a shaft b, the sun s<SP>1</SP> of the first train is connected to shaft a through a hydraulic torque converter or clutch H, the annulus r' of the first train may be coupled to the sun s' of the second train by a friction clutch K', the carrier t<SP>2</SP> of the second train is connected to the driven shaft c, the sun s' and annulus r' may be coupled together by a friction clutch K', band brakes B<SP>1</SP> and B<SP>2</SP> are provided for annulus r' and sun s', and the connected members t<SP>1</SP>, r<SP>2</SP> may be stationed by a positive detent B'. The arrangement provides four speeds forward and one reverse, for first speed, via transformer H, brakes B<SP>1</SP>, B<SP>2</SP> are applied, giving double reduction, for second speed, via transformer H, brake B' and clutch K' are engaged, giving reduction'in the first train and direct in the second train. For third speed, clutch K' and brake B<SP>2</SP> are engaged, so that drive passes only through the second train, which reduces. For fourth (direct) speed, clutches K', K' are engaged, so that drive passes only through the second train which turns solid. For reverse, via transformer H, clutch K<SP>3</SP> and detent B' are engaged, the speed being reduced in both 'trains. All the gears are effective on over-run of the driven shaft. The two trains may be identical and such that the forward gear-ratios are in geometrical progression, with the reverse gearratio equal to that of the first gear.
