Abstract

667,676. Cutting-tools; tool-holders. CRISP, W. H., and HARDWICK, H. B. Feb. 24, 1950 [Feb. 25, 1949], No. 5252/49. Class 83 (iii). A cutting-tool comprises a cutting tip 8 secured to a holder 1 by a clamp 12, a separate seating pad 5 for the tip affording a surface for reacting the cutting load and a bearing surface for reacting the feeding force, and a plurality of mating serrations 3 on the pad and holder extending transversely to the direction of the feeding force and the length of the holder to transmit this force to the holder. The feeding force is transmitted through the tip 8 and into an upstanding shoulder 7 on the pad 5 which conveys it through the serrations 3 into the holder 1. Clamping screws 13 may be released from the clamp 12 to allow adjustment of the tip and pad into different serrations in order to permit re-grinding of the tip without grinding the holder 1. A pin 11 is passed through the serrations on the holder and pad to prevent relative movement along the serrations. Specification 595,420 is referred to.
