[Also in Groups XVII and XXX] Sheet separator.-Means for transferring collapsed cartons from a magazine to opening out' and conveying means includes a plurality of carton seizing means carried by a rotatable column. Each arm of four pairs of arms 11 extending from a hollow vertical shaft 10, rotated either continuously or intermittently, carries pivotally at its outer end a bell crank lever 12 carrying at one end a suction cup 14, yieldable about a pivot 36'. One lever 12 of each pair engages at its other end a stationary cam 16, the other lever 12 of the pair being connected by a bar 30 to said first lever 12 to move therewith. A pair of the suction cups 14 engage a collapsed carton 5' in a magazine 17, a cam 22, loosely mounted on the end of the shaft 10, is then rocked, by lever means 23, 24 actuated by a cam 26 on a rotating shaft 27, to engage the bellcrank 12 to withdraw the carton axially of the magazine. The carton is then carried round to opening means, the cam 16 causing slight angular movement of the carton to avoid obstacles and properly to position the carton for presentation to the opening and conveying means. Means for suitably controlling the application of suction to the suction cups 14 include, Fig. 11, a stationary sleeve 40 in the rotating hollow shaft 10 closed at its upper end and connected at its lower end to a vacuum source. The sleeve has a semi-circular slot 42 cut therein to co-operate with parts 43 formed in the shaft 10 and connected by tubes 44 to the suction cups.
