Abstract
661,749. Rotary compressors or motors. NORTHEY, A. J. Dec. 22, 1949. [Jan. 17, 1949] No. 32817/49. Class 110(ii). The compressor (or motor) is formed with two co-acting rotors 19, 20, provided with pistons 21, 22, and recesses 23, 24, and has arcuate inlet and exhaust ports 13, 14 in side walls 9, 10 arranged concentrically with the rotor axes. The inlet port extends over such a circular arc (preferably to 360 degrees) that it is not closed by its co-acting rotor during at least a part of the period of the cycle in which a blade is in the recess of the other rotor so that fluid enters easily even at high speeds of rotation. The rotor 20 may be provided with side discs 29, 30 which have arcuate ports corresponding in-size and position to the piston-receiving recess in the rotor. The outlet port can then be extended radially to the rotor periphery or beyond as the discs effect sealing purposes. Fluid enters through an inlet 11 and ducts 12 to the port 13, and is discharged through ports 14, in the discs 29, 30, ducts 15 and an outlet 16. The discs may be made integral with the rotor 20.
