Abstract
659,052. Moulding shoes. VOL CREPE, Ltd., and WOOLLEY, J. E. April 5, 1946, No. 10540. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group VII] A shoe having a sole made wholly of a thermoplastic synthetic resin is made by lasting an upper of leather, felt or reinforced plastic sheeting on a metal last D, then applying the upper to the resin A in a mould B on a hot plate F<SP>1</SP>. Pressure is applied by the head F of a hydraulic press, to cause the resin to spew up around the lower edges of the upper. When the upper consists of straps C<SP>1</SP> a rim B' may be provided to prevent the spewing up of material except around the ends of the straps. The downward movement of the last may be limited by distance pieces F<SP>2</SP>. Pressure is transmitted to the toe of the last through a member E. In a modification, Fig. 4, the sole material may be injected into the mould through a nozzle G, the last being forced up until it engages a fixed plate F<SP>2</SP>. In a further modification the sole material may be plasticized and then poured into the mould. The bottom of the upper may also be coated with the paste. The last with the upper is then placed in the mould and the mould heated electrically to 140‹C. which causes the paste to gell. Pressure is then applied, after which the mould is cooled. An upper may be formed on the last, by providing recesses on the last, heating it, and then spraying a plastic paste on to the last. A sole may then be formed on the upper as described, to form an all plastic shoe. Specification 582,431 is referred to.
