Abstract

762,351. Boots &c. BRITISH BATA SHOE CO., Ltd. April 28, 1954 [Jan. 25, 1952], No. 2071/52. Class 17 (2). In making rubber-soled footwear an upperinsole sack 11, 12 is attached to a sole unit by vulcanizing a sponge rubber part 16 surrounding at least the periphery of an intersole 14. The sole unit consists of an intersole 14 composed of cork and sponge rubber aggregate united and pre-vulcanized with a rubber outsole 15. The sole unit 14, 15, filler 17 and unvulcanized sponge rubber 16 is placed in a mould closed by the sack unit 11, 12 mounted on a last 10, and heat for vulcanization is applied to attach the parts. The last may be shaped to form a bevel 11B which becomes filled at 16A with the sponge rubber. In a modification, the sponge rubber covers the whole undersurface of the intersole.
