658,628. Pipe couplings. SOC. D'ETUDES AERO-MECANIQUES. S.E.A.M. Nov. 5, 1948, No. 28822. Convention date, Nov. 5, 1947. [Class 99(i)] [Also in Groups XXV and XXXVI] In a device comprising at least two interengageable elements, e.g. a plug 9 socket 2. 1, mechanical means for moving said elements into and out of engagement comprises two side plates 4 pivoted at D to levers 7 pivoted at C to the plug. In effecting engagement of the plug and socket, movement of levers 7 in the direction f, first causes a hooked part 5 of each plate to engage a lug A on the socket. The plates, guided by lugs B on the plug working in slots 6 in the plates, then draw the plug and socket together until levers 7 reach a position parallel with the longitudinal axis of the plug and socket where they may be retained by a spring 11 embracing the socket. Pivot D then lies above the line of points A, B, C so that any force tending to separate the plug and socket urges levers 7 further into their locking position. A rubber gasket 12 or other elastic means may be provided between the plug and socket which is first compressed and then slightly released during the final movement of levers 7, the outward pressure exerted thereby enhancing the locking action in addition to sealing the device. A spring 9 may be provided between the plates 4 and levers 7 acting either in the locking direction or to facilitate release.
