Abstract
912,217. Ball and socket vehicle couplings. HENRY, H. P. June 5, 1961 [Aug. 10, 1960], No. 27727/60. Class 103(5). A ball and socket vehicle coupling comprises a ball retaining sliding bolt 16 which may be held in a disengaged position, Fig. 6, by toggle links 25, which links are pivoted to cheeks 17 on pivoted handles 19 operating the bolt 16 through a second set of toggle links 17, 21, and to a spring pressed tappet 22, Fig. 2, the toggles 25 being released by insertion of the ball into the socket which raises the tappet to break the toggles and assists the movement of the handles 19 down to the Fig. 4 position. The ball is now held in the socket by the bolt 16 which has been moved downwardly by the toggles 17, 21, the links 21 being biased by a spring 26 and pivoted to the bolt 16.
