Abstract

711,228. Wrenches. GARRINGTONS, Ltd. July 30, 1952 [Aug. 2, 1951], No. 18284/51. Class 61 In a pipe wrench; the fixed jaw 11 and adjustable jaw 21 are connected together for limited pivotal movement by a pair of trunnion pins 17, 27 having their pivoting axes parallel but spaced apart. The stem 20 of the adjustable jaw is slidable in a channel-shaped guide 19 which is pivoted by the pin 17 to the body 10 which carries the fixed jaw 11. The arms of the guide closely embrace opposite sides of the recessed body, the pivotal movement of the guide being limited by engagement with a shoulder on the fixed jaw. The jaw 21 is connected to the body 10 through the medium of a pivoted locking pawl 24. The pawl has a forked end 26, the ends of the fork being received in recesses in opposite sides of the body and pivoted thereto by the pin 27. The pawl has ratchet teeth 25 which are held in engagement with ratchet teeth on the stem 20 of the adjustable jaw by a compression spring 31 and released by pressure on a thumb piese 33 at the free end of the pawl.
