Abstract

658,069. Pliers. SWAFFIELD, G. L. C. (Harnett, J.). July 29, 1949, No. 19970. [Class 61(ii)] In pliers having double ended jaw members and reversible handles to allow of the use of either pair of jaws the crossed jaw members 1 and 2 pivoted together at 4a are held open by a spring 3 which is housed in circular recesses formed co-axially with the pivot in the members 1 and 2. The spring has laterally projecting ends 3a and 3b engaging in recesses in the jaws which are operated by cranked portions 5b, 6b of the handles 5, 6. The pivot comprises a countersunk screw 4a and countersunk nut. The jaws may be of round or taper nose form and may include wire cutting edges.
